Registered Candidates & Profiles

Chris Armstrong

Hi there!  For those who don’t know me, my name is Chris Armstrong, and I am running for  re-election to Trochu Town Council.

I have lived in Trochu for 25 years, alongside my wife Krista.  Together, we raised our 3 children in this community, and I want to keep this a safe, vibrant town to raise a family.

I have been heavily involved in our community since we moved here.  I have assisted with youth sports – both in school and extra-curricular activities. I have coached or managed hockey, softball, baseball, volleyball, basketball, lacrosse  – basically anything my kids were involved in.  I was a founding member of Friends of TroVal – a community group that fought to have our school fully renovated and modernized – and also led to the creation of the TroVal Fitness Centre – both of which have enriched our community.

I am also a member of the Trochu Fire Department – This will be my 25th year of serving our community as a first responder, and this year, I was elected Deputy Chief.

I have a passion for emergency services – I want to ensure our community is protected by ensuring we have proper equipment and training for our firefighters and first responders.  I want to keep Trochu a great place to raise a family, and make it easy to start and operate a business.  I’ve been on Council for two terms, and I would love to go back in to continue the good work we’ve done in our community.  We have new businesses coming to town, established businesses are expanding , and we’ll have THE best seniors’ facility in the area.

Our town is growing and getting better every day – I’d like to continue to help steer our community in a positive direction.  I would appreciate you choosing to return me to Town Council.

Coral Babet

Hi, My name is Coral Babet.

I  moved to Trochu in the summer of 2023. Fell in love with the place and really want to see it prosper and grow.

I decided to run for a town council position because I feel I am qualified to help make educated and professional decisions for our town and people.

My background includes being a veteran. I am proud to have served my country.

And worked in the telecommunications industry for over nine years, was trained to be a manager, how to communicate, how to effectively send emails and learned numerous other communication methods.

Previously I also worked in construction, mining and highways divisions.

Owned my own businesses over the years and learned how to run a successful business through hard work and dedication.

I have a passion for helping people, influencing growth and prosperity to benefit our community.

I hope to have the chance serve Trochu as a town council member.

Bill Cunningham

I am a retired teacher, born and raised in Trochu, and am also president of the Trochu Valley Historical Society.

I am thrilled with the resilience of our Sunterra worker residents who have remained in Trochu and very grateful to the community which supported them since the fire.

As a councillor for the Town of Trochu since 2007, I am proud of our dedicated staff and a group of councillors who haven’t been afraid to think big.  Projects like the lagoon expansion, Main Street upgrade, modernization of Trochu Valley School, and the new seniors housing development are visible improvements.  I hope that our policies have helped encourage business development as well as new housing starts.

Looking forward, I am excited to see the finished project on the hill.  I hope that we can encourage higher levels of government to support infrastructure upgrades such as paving, water and sewer.  I want to start the conversation on the future of the St. Mary’s complex as well as the Doctor Hay house.

Trochu has always been home to me and I would be honoured to serve another term on council.

Cerilo De La Cruz

My name is Cerilo Dela Cruz, and I have been proud to call Trochu, Alberta my home since 2008. As a member of the Kneehill Fill-Can Bayanihan Society, I have worked to support and strengthen our community in meaningful ways.

I am actively involved in local youth basketball, coaching at Trochu Valley School, refereeing games, and organizing drop-in sessions to give kids a chance to stay active and develop teamwork and sportsmanship. I also helped develop support initiatives for foreign workers affected by the Sunterra Meats fires in Trochu, ensuring that those in need received assistance during a challenging time.

I am committed to continuing to serve our community, supporting youth development, and helping where I can. I would be honoured to have your support for my re-election and the opportunity to keep contributing to Trochu’s growth and well-being.

Dayna Maki

I’ve called Trochu home since 2022 and quickly came to appreciate the spirit, heritage, and strong sense of community that makes our town unique. Since moving here, I’ve become actively involved with the Trochu Arboretum, where I’ve seen firsthand how volunteer-led initiatives strengthen connections and enhance the quality of life in our town.

Professionally, I bring over 25 years of experience in nonprofit marketing and communications, along with a background in affordable housing and municipal government. My work has focused on helping organizations grow by building partnerships, securing funding, and creating programs and services that make a real difference for people. I want to bring those same skills to the role of town councillor by working collaboratively, listening openly, and guiding decisions that reflect the values and needs of our community.

I am passionate about affordable housing and believe it is essential for a thriving community where people of all ages feel secure. I am committed to supporting our aging population, while also attracting and nurturing young families to ensure Trochu continues to grow and thrive. I also want to champion our small businesses, create opportunities to attract new services, and strengthen social services. I believe that when residents have access to the services and supports they need, the whole community benefits.

I believe Trochu’s natural beauty, community spaces like the Arboretum, and unique attractions, such as Henry’s Shoes and the Biggest Golf Tee in the world, are worth celebrating and sharing. I see tremendous potential to leverage these assets to grow tourism, strengthen our local economy, and build community pride. I envision creating more opportunities for local events and gatherings that bring residents and visitors together.

If elected to council, I will focus on thoughtful, sustainable decision-making, rooted in listening to residents and building bridges across different perspectives. My goal is to help Trochu continue to grow as a welcoming, connected, and forward-looking community where everyone has the opportunity to belong and prosper!

Jaime Martel

Greetings Trochu, my name is Jaime Martel, and I am proud to once again put my name forward as a candidate for council.

Over the past 18 years of living in Trochu, I’ve come to appreciate and value the strength of small-town community life. A sense of connection, belonging, and working together has always been important to me, and I am eager to continue serving our community.

For the past 12 years, I have been an owner/operator of a small business, bringing 30 years of experience in my industry. I continue to serve as a Director with the Trochu & District Ag Society, where I have been actively involved for over a decade. I am also an avid volunteer and have recently started a food security program to help strengthen support for families and individuals in our community.

Looking ahead, here are a few of my priorities:

Community Pride & Beautification: Building on our small-town charm, I’d like to see more encouragement and support for beautification efforts, ensuring our town reflects the pride we feel living here.

Sustainable Growth & Funding: I am committed to working with council and residents to find creative and practical ways to bring more funding into our community, ensuring we have the resources to grow and improve for the future.

Serving on council is an opportunity to give back, to listen, and to work together for the betterment of Trochu. I am dedicated to bringing forward new ideas while also building on the strong foundation already here.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about me. I look forward to connecting with you, hearing your thoughts, and working together for the future of our community.

Janet Mae Martin

For those I have not had the pleasure of meeting yet, my name is Janet Mae Martin and it would be a great honour to serve on the Trochu Town Council. My husband Gary and I have lived in Trochu since 2018. We are very community minded and have enjoyed taking part in and volunteering in various local community events. As citizens I believe it is imperative to be involved here and to shop locally so we can keep our businesses thriving.

Our world is changing and we need to adapt to this. I am running for office to help bring positive change to Trochu. With small town living it is important to have a sense of community togetherness and to progress as a safe and secure environment. It is important to me to support our economic growth as well as our families, seniors, and youth.

I have owned and operated small businesses and bring many organizational, financial, marketing and human resource skills to this position. I have been in management with Travel Alberta and Alberta Parks where I had the pleasure of promoting our beautiful province. When I travel, I enjoy being an ambassador for Trochu by taking the Trochu pins with me and giving them out to promote our town and the largest golf tee in the world!

My work experience also extends to working in various medical facilities and patient care. I know how important it is to have a place for seniors here, so they do not have to leave the community they know and love. Trochu Senior Housing Facility will make this come true, and I look forward to supporting this community commitment.

As a counsellor it would be a honour to be a team player on council. If I am elected , I will bring my life experiences, curiosity, enthusiasm, and fresh ideas to serve our Town. Your priorities are my priorities, and I will listen to your great ideas to make Trochu continue to Thrive! Thank you for your consideration of voting for me.

Carl Peterson

I am a 3rd generation Trochu resident and graduate of TVHS. I am a carpenter and was a construction superintendent for 25+ years. In 2005, I was hired as Director of Operations for the Town overseeing the public works department and received certification as a Water Operator and Pesticide Applicator. I was fortunate to work “hands on” with many of our volunteer groups including Communities in Bloom, Arboretum Society, Ace Trails group and Friends of Tro-Val to name a few. I firmly believe volunteers are an integral part of keeping small communities viable.

In 2014, I became the CAO and received my status as a Certified Local Government Manager in 2018. I remained in that position until my retirement in July of 2025. As CAO, I sat on numerous boards and committees and developed a good and respectful rapport with our regional partners and support groups. I currently sit on the boards of the Trochu Housing Corporation and the Arboretum Society.

Trochu residents have always supported me during my municipal career, and I now have the time and opportunity to give back. I believe that my experience can be an asset, and I would be honoured to represent Trochu as a Councillor.

Chris Reeds

As a proud lifelong resident of Trochu, husband and father of 4, I am running for council to keep our community strong, welcoming and thriving.

With 18 years of previous council experience and being a small business owner for nearly 20 years, I know the value of hard work, accountability, and listening to the concerns of residents.
As a councillor I will:

Support responsible growth

Improve local services and infrastructure

Encourage open communication and transparency

I believe strong local government begins with accountability and collaboration Vote Chris Reeds for Town Council

Jon Sedore

I have lived in Trochu since 2022 and proudly serve as President of the Trochu Arboretum Society. In this role, I’ve helped lead beloved community events such as the Open Farm Days festival and the Forest of Lights in addition to the general operations of our beautiful Arboretum. We are currently working on a $250,000 project upgrading the Arboretum’s pathways and lighting to improve accessibility for all residents and visitors.

Before moving to Trochu, I worked for over a decade in Calgary’s oil and gas sector, specializing in logistics and project management. That experience gave me the ability to plan effectively, coordinate complex projects, and see ideas through to completion—skills that I believe will be valuable in town council decision-making.

What I love most about Trochu is its small-town spirit, where neighbors wave, smile, and stop to chat. My family and I enjoy being part of this community, and through sharing our experience, we’ve inspired friends and relatives to move here as well. Trochu truly is a gem, and its future depends on how many of us get involved.

As a councillor, my priorities are to strengthen community engagement, support local growth and tourism, and improve essential infrastructure. I am committed to truth, transparency, and working with residents to ensure Trochu thrives.
